ABOUT THE POSITION:

This role is your chance to own and build the Melbourne Swim Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Lakeside Stadium and State Netball & Hockey Centre (SNHC) brands as an Event destination! You will be focused on driving revenue, developing and managing key partnerships, creating “never forget” experiences, and attracting local, regional and interstate visitors to our facilities. With a passion for people and their development, you will manage a team and work closely with internal and external stakeholders.

As part of the Marketing team, your work will be centred around building successful sales and marketing strategies that promote our event hosting capabilities - which will ultimately drive an increase in revenue. Key to your success in the role will be your business development skills, your creative thinking and your ability to build strong relationships with sports partners – at a National, State and local level.

As a seasoned event professional, you will utilise your complete toolbox in this role. From designing and implementing strategies to attract events, creatively thinking about how available spaces can be repurposed, and being the face of the business when dealing with sporting clubs and associations in relation to significant events.  This role is outwardly focused to both identify and win new business, create new revenue opportunities and work with the broader team to bring this to life.

We are looking for a passionate, energetic and self-driven leader to join our team as the Events Sales & Business Development Manager. You are passionate about people, their development, and developing a strong culture which allows people to thrive.

This is not an ordinary role, and we are not looking for an ordinary candidate. Whilst working in a unique environment, this role combines strong business development, revenue generation and relationship building with strategic thinking and planning, and will utilise your sales and commercial acumen.

State Sport Centres Trust, manages and operates MSAC (Albert Park) , Lakeside Stadium (Albert Park), and SNHC (Parkville). Our purpose is to improve sports performance, participation and active lifestyles for all Victorians, by providing world class events, sports and wellness centres. Each year, our venues attract over 2.5 million visitors who use our facilities to train, compete, recover or spectate – this genuinely is your chance to make a difference. The Trust is located in MSAC, within the elite training facility with state of the art aquatic and multi-sport courts & training facilities, function spaces and the offices of 20+ state sports organisations.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Demonstrated strong commercial and sales focus
  • Proven experience in an Event Sales and Development role (or similar) with strong pipeline development
  • Demonstrated ability to increase revenue through creative sales and marketing strategies
  • Strong Event knowledge, experience, and operational understanding e.g. event pricing models, quote and proposal development, operational considerations, budget management etc
  • Passion for creating high quality events, with an interest in staying across industry trends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management and organisational skills 
  • Results-driven, with strong negotiation skills
  • Team management and people development experience
  • A Connector, with strong relationship development skills
  • Experience within the Sports industry or the Functions space would be advantageous
  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Business or similar (preferred but not essential)
