We are recruiting for the position of Front Desk Manager at one of our popular backpacker Hostels located in Sydney. If you are an ambitious, outgoing and rounded professional, this could be the perfect opportunity to work in a fun and dynamic role for one of Australia's fastest growing hostel operators.

The successful candidate will report to the General Manager and be jointly responsible for the day to day management of the 200+ bed hostel, primarily including managing the daily reception staff and assisting with managing a fun team of housekeepers, night managers and event managers. This is an incredible opportunity to work in a fun, action-packed social setting while meeting amazing people from all around the world! 

The role of the Front Desk Manager includes but is not limited to the following:

Oversee General Duties:

  • Managing the day to day operation of the hostel
  • Keep General Manager up to date with operation of hostel
  • Elevate issues as required
  • Respond to guest and staff feedback regarding broken or malfunctioning items and liaise with state manager to arrange and implement a preventative maintenance schedule
  • Ensure all guests abide by hostel rules

Staff Management and Performance:

  • Assist with staff selection
  • Assist with staff work rosters and schedules
  • Ensure the cleaning team maintains quality standards for cleanliness
  • Undertake daily spot checks of rooms

External Contractor Management

  • Assist the General Manager with the management of all external contractors including cleaners, pest control companies, fire monitoring, and waste contractors. 
  • Assist the General manager with the management of the performance of external contractors and ensure all issues are rectified in a timely manner

Reception and Customer Service

  • Maintain accurate online hostel reservation information
  • Ensure all emails are responded to in a timely manner
  • Ensure high levels of customer service are maintained
  • Respond to and close out guest concerns and complaints

Business Development and Strategy

  • Assist in implementing yield management principles in response to occupation levels, seasonal fluctuations etc. to maximise hostel revenue.
  • Ensure that the hostel identifies and meets the changing needs of guests
  • Assist with maintaining and regularly updating the hostel's social media pages
