Serco are currently seeking qualified and experienced Catering Assistants to join the team on a casual basis at our Brisbane Immigration Transit Accommodation (BITA) site. The successful candidates report to the Catering Manager and will ensure the smooth and successful operation of the food service process, whilst complying with all food hygiene regulations.

About the role

The successful applicants will need a positive attitude with a strong work ethic and good communication skills. The ability to follow direction and be a team player whilst working in this diverse fast paced environment is a must. This role is physically demanding and you will be required to constantly lift and bend, push and pull stock. This role is a casual position working across the seven days including public holidays, covering the hours from 10am – 2pm and 4pm – 8pm for lunch and dinner service.

Responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and delivering food of high standard
• Serve detainees with food that is nutritious and well presented
• General cleaning tasks and maintenance of the kitchen to ensure hygienic conditions at all times
• Assist the Catering Manager and Chefs in preparation of the daily menu
• Good knife skills is essential
• Ensure all tasks are performed in a timely manner and comply with internal policy and legislative requirements

Qualifications and knowledge required:

• Minimum Certificate II in Kitchen Operations (SIT20312) or equivalent qualification
• Basic Food Hygiene /Handling Certificate
• Demonstrated experience with basic kitchen processes and food preparation
• Sound understanding of HACCP principles
• First Aid Certificate is desirable
• Understanding of OHS legislation and management of hazards

Requirements:

• Ability to maintain an Australian Federal Police Check
