About the role:

Serco currently have a casual opportunity available for an experienced Chef from a high volume food production background to join our core catering team based at Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre (YHIDC) in Northam Western Australia. In this role you will be reporting to the Catering Manager and will assist in facilitating the preparation of the daily menu and running of the kitchen area.

 

This position is responsible for leading food preparation and service for a large number of people in detention, assisting with training and development of personnel within the catering department, presentation and display of food, including portion sizes and maintaining food hygiene and safety practices. You will have the ability to step up and lead the team when required. Sound knowledge in cultural dietary requirements is an advantage and good computer skills are necessary to fulfil this role successfully. This role is physically demanding and you will be required to constantly lift, push and pull stock during the course of your shift.

 

Qualifications, skills required

  • Certificate III or higher in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery or Trade Qualifications)
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Ability to maintain HACCP Systems, reporting and documentation
  • Sound experience cooking in a bulk volume kitchen operations
  • Ability to maintain an Australian Federal Police clearance
  • Flexibility in working hours
  • Moderate skill level with computers 

 

In this position you will work over seven days, including public holidays, covering the hours 8am – 8.30pm in 10.86hours shifts.
