The PS Murray Princess is the largest inland paddle wheeler in the Southern Hemisphere. Accommodating a maximum of 120 guests and operating 3, 4 and 7 night cruises on the Murray River from Mannum, 87 kilometres from Adelaide, this stunning vessel attracts guests from all over Australia and the world.

It is essential that you have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year hotel, restaurant or cruise ship experience in a position of responsibility, such as a head waiter/waitress or head room attendant / cabin steward
  • Experience in working in a fast paced team to reach goals
  • Guest service experience
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol - Essential

Previous experience in the tourism industry along with a certificate qualification in Hospitality would be looked upon favourably.

Whilst not essential, it would be desirable for the successful person to have a Food Safety Certificate and experience in liaising with suppliers and contractors.

All meals and accommodation on board the Murray Princess when rostered on duty are included. Transport from Adelaide CBD to Mannum is provided if required.

About the role

This role is a split role, with 75% of shifts spent as Leading Hand Cabins, and 25% of shifts spent as Cabin Waiter.

The roster rotation for this position is 14.5 days on / 13.5 days off / 14.5 days on / 6.5 days off.

The Leading Hand is an integral position in the Hospitality Operations on the Murray Princess. The Leading Hand position involves all aspects of housekeeping including, but not limited to; cabin cleaning, making beds daily, and changing linen, cleaning bathrooms and general cleaning of cabins and public areas. The position also involves dining room set up, drink/food waiting, polishing of cutlery, guest boarding, folding of napkins, cabin cleaning room allocations and other related tasks as required.

The Leading Hand is responsible for crew supervision including the allocation of cabins for cleaning and spring cleaning duties. They are also responsible for ordering cleaning supplies and ensuring sufficient stock is on board. The Leading Hand is expected to ensure a high standard is guaranteed, through daily cabin inspections.

The Cabin Waiter position involves all aspects of cabin cleaning including making beds daily, changing linen, cleaning bathrooms and general cleaning of cabins and public areas. The position also involves dining room set up, drink waiting, polishing of cutlery, guest boarding, folding of napkins and clearing plates.

This role requires energy, commitment, initiative, teamwork, and multi-skilling and time management.

The Leading Hand will be expected to meet and exceed key performance indicators, whilst displaying a high level of work ethics.
