The Karijini Eco Retreat is located on 6km of protected bush land within the iconic Karijini National Park, Western Australia

This is a truly unique and sustainable Eco certified accommodation located in Western Australia's Pilbara region consisting of 50 safari style tents, camp sites, licensed restaurant, bar and kiosk (see www.karijiniecoretreat.com.au)

We are looking for an Assistant Chef to join our 2018 peak-season team.

Our A la carte restaurant offers an authentic Australian dining experience in a unique, outback alfresco style setting. Open 7 days per week, we typically serve up to 100 guests per night.

You will also need to provide a healthy range of meals for a team of approximately 20 staff.

The successful candidate will be required for an immediate start, until the end of October 2018 (subject to business requirements) and will be mainly cooking in an outdoor kitchen (barbecue style), paying great attention to food safety, hygiene and preparation/presentation standards.

The position is a great opportunity for an 'up and coming' Chef who is ready to undertake the challenge of working in a remote location in 'not your average' restaurant environment. A 'can do' attitude is essential as well as a willingness to assist other Chefs and staff with all aspects of running and maintaining a busy restaurant. This will include breakfast, lunch and dinner services, functions and group catering with personalised dining packages and special dietary requirements.

Please Note:

·         This is NOT a FIFO position

·         Staff live onsite in accommodation provided

·         Successful applicants must be prepared to undergo workplace drug screening and alcohol breath testing as deemed necessary by the company

·         Applicants with vehicles are encouraged to drive in

·         Proof of eligibility to work in Australia is essential

·         Temperatures can be extreme – 40 degrees plus in the day during summer and below freezing at night in winter. Staff will be required to work in the sun, heat and wet weather.

Applicants must have or be willing to obtain the following:

·         Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate

·         OHS / Safe Food Handling Certificate

·         First Aid Certification

·         Fluency in English

·         Trade qualified in food handling, preparation & cooking – to Australian Recognised Standards

Ideal applicants will be:

·         Experienced in the hospitality/tourism industry

·         Environmentally conscious and enjoy the outdoors

·         Good communicators with a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills

·         Able to work unsupervised in a remote location  

·         Flexible and adaptable to work in all areas of the Retreat

·         Organised, multi-skilled and reliable

·         Able to work well in teams and willing to help others 

·         Able to provide a top-quality dining experience to our patrons

·         Have previous experience or a passion for  a "Bush Tucker" infused menu
