About the Role

The Women's and Children's Division at Sunshine Hospital is offering Paediatric Registrar positions in 2018 (either Advanced or Basic Trainee level) up until 4 February 2019.

NB: successful applicants will have the opportunity of continuing into the 2019 clinical year.  During this year we will be expanding our services significantly as we move into the new Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital – including opening a new Neonatal Intensive Care.

Sunshine Hospital has about 5,500 births per year, a busy 26 cot Level 2 Special Care Nursery, a 25 bed Children's Ward (with a mixture of medical and surgical patients), approximately 25,000 Paediatric Emergency presentations per year and a large Paediatric Outpatient unit.

This post is accredited by the RACP for Advanced Training in General Paediatrics. The position will suit a paediatric trainee wanting an opportunity to develop skills in general paediatrics in a supportive environment, with a focus on the development of independent practice.

Job Sharing is possible

Notable features of the department and position include:

  • Paediatric consultant support on-site 5 days per week, including 3 fulltime neonatologists.  Consultant ward rounds every day
  • There are at least 2 paediatric registrars on-site 24/7
  • Exposure to a wide range of clinic situations requiring independent decision making, with close consultant support
  • Sunshine Hospital paediatric medical OP clinics include general paediatrics, neonatology, adolescent health, endocrinology, cardiology, allergy, growth, feeding difficulties, developmental/behavioural
  • Assistance / supervision of Junior Residents seconded from Royal Children's Hospital and from Western Hospital is an important role of the position
  • Active teaching and research programs in place with expectation of contributions by the successful applicant(s)
  • An active simulation program, both insitu and high fidelity, supporting the training of medical and nursing/midwifery staff.
