The Hospital
The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Melbourne is one of the world's great children's hospitals. We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas. The Department

The department of General Medicine is one of the largest departments at RCH, and includes sub-specialty units of Infectious Diseases, Immunisation, Rheumatology, Immigrant Health and Clinical Pharmacology, as well as providing leadership and staffing to the 24 bed Short Stay Unit.  The department provides an inpatient service managed by 18 consultants attached to 4 medical teams, seeing over 6500 admissions per year, in addition to providing outpatient services including General Medicine, Continence, Upper Airways, Emergency Review, Chronic Fatigue and sub-specialty clinics.

 

The Role

General Medicine has multiple roles available for General Medicine Fellow positions, commencing in February 2019.

 

This fellowship will provide an Advanced Trainee/Fellow of the RACP in Paediatrics with experience and training in General Medicine.  Depending on seniority and experience, there is the opportunity for the fellow to work as a Junior Consultant, in a supervised capacity.

 

As part of this fellowship, the General Medicine Fellow will take on the role of Night Medical Lead, mentoring and leading less experienced staff and managing clinical resources to meet the demands of increasing patient acuity and flow challenges after hours.  This aspect of the role will comprise 3 months of the 12 month position, and be based on 3x1 month periods of one week on/one week off (4 week period - 2 weeks nights and 2 weeks off). 

 

Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Police Check and Working With Children Check.  In addition, all International Medical Graduate applicants will need to have passed the IELTS test (results must indicate a score of 7 or above in all bands) in order to be successful in this position.

Qualifications required

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • AHPRA registration
  • Eligible for registration in Victoria
  • Advanced Trainee in Paediatrics, with RACP exams completed (preference given to applicants who have completed their advanced training and gained Fellowship)
