Who We Are

Medibank’s Garrison Health Services (GHS) delivers a national integrated healthcare service to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Through Medibank’s extensive network GHS provides access to seamless quality healthcare to over 80 000 uniformed ADF personnel from point of injury or illness to recovery. The GHS team manages and coordinates over 1100 on-base primary healthcare experts, over 4000 medical specialists, 255 hospitals and over 8000 allied health professionals working in collaboration across all states.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Contracted Clinician (SCC) to join our on-base medical teams across Australia.  This is a fantastic opportunity to progress your career in a leadership role. Please note that the position will offer opportunities to work in various locations including interstate contracts. The SCC is responsible to Health Centre managers for the provision of medical advice and the technical supervision of medical practitioners rostered for duty. The SCC must exercise independent and professional judgement in carrying out the clinical and administrative responsibilities within the Health Centres and Clinics.

As an SCC you will be required to perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks including but not limited to:

• Provide clinical leadership across the facilities;
• Application of defence polies on a day to day basis;
• Provide information, advice, and recommendations on medical issues and specialist medical services to the Health Centre manager, including urgent or complex clinical situations that may impose an additional administrative requirement or follow-up with external agencies / departments;
• GP consultations, referrals, health screenings and liaison with allied health professionals;
• Sick parades;
• Minor surgery involving local anaesthesia only and that is superficial in nature and mainly on the periphery of the body;
• Provision of occupational health services and preventative health care in accordance with Defence Policies and Procedures and as clinically indicated;
• Participate in quality and governance improvement;

About You

As an SCC you will hold Australian citizenship and have full and unconditional registration as a medical practitioner in Australia with AHPRA.

Other requirements include:

• A minimum of 5 years post graduate general practice experience;
• A Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Fellow of the College of Rural and Remote Medicine or Vocational Registration or equivalent suitable experience and training as assessed by CJHLTH;
• Evidence of involvement in an appropriate quality assurance and continuous professional development/continuous medical education provided by a recognised training provider;
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training/qualification or equivalent; and
• Previous Defence experience is highly desirable
