The Position

St John of God Hawkesbury District Health Service (HDHS) is accredited by RACP for 12 months of Advanced Physician Training. You will experience a wide variety of acute medicine including the supervision of HDU patients, as well as outpatient clinics.

You will be supervised by Visiting Medical Officers and a Staff Specialist with backgrounds in General Medicine, Geriatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology and Cardiology. You will work on a Monday to Friday roster with no requirement for overnight or weekend shifts.

HDHS provides inpatient and ambulatory services to residents of the Hawkesbury and surrounding districts for public (under agreement with Nepean Blue Mountains LHD) and private patients. The Hospital has 120 beds including an 8 bed High Dependency Unit (HDU). The Emergency Department sees 25,000 patients per year and is staffed by Emergency Medicine Specialists.

This position is being offered on a full time basis for 6 or 12 months (Monday to Friday with no after hours) commencing August 2018 or January 2019.

The successful candidate will have:

  • General registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia and AHPRA.
  • Registration with RACP as an Advanced Physician Trainee.
  • Demonstrated clinical and procedural competency in:
    • Assessment and management of medical patients
    • Venepuncture, venous and arterial cannulations
    • Urinary Catheterisation including suprapubic catheters
    • Lumbar Puncture
    • Independent interpretation of diagnostic pathology, radiology and cardiology tests
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Basic and Advanced life support including airway management of adult patients (completion of accredited training in past 2 years)
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality management and continuing medical education and training
