Purpose of Position

The Post Graduate Fellow is responsible for provision of direct patient care and daily clinical supervision and management of Emergency Department (ED) services at Maitland Hospital and Lower Hunter Departments.

Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) for the purpose of improving the timeliness of care by 50% of work provided will be at Maitland under direct FACEM supervision in line with the accreditation standard of Fellowship training ensuring ED patients are treated, discharged, admitted or referred from the ED within a defined time.

The Maitland Hospital Emergency Department is looking for Post-Graduate Fellows in Emergency Medicine to help us deliver excellence in clinical care to our patients - every patient, every time.

About you
You will be responsible for the provision of direct patient care, daily clinical supervision and management of Emergency Department (ED) Services at the Maitland and Cessnock Hospitals. You will be required to participate in after-hours and weekend duty roster. You will have a vision and an optimistic, upbeat personality which inspires a positive change in others. You will lead by example and be able to gain the buy in of your team by being inclusive and valuing the contribution of each and every member of the team.

About the hospital
The Maitland Hospital is a 170 bed rural referral facility that services the Upper and Lower Hunter Region and the cities and towns of Maitland, Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Dungog and Raymond Terrace. Presentations have been growing for several years and have an annual presentation of over 49,000 patients, of which 22% are admitted. About one third of all presentations are paediatric and 2% are transferred to quaternary referral hospitals. The Emergency Department has a total of 24 treatment spaces; including 2 resuscitation beds and 5 fast track treatment spaces.

Maitland is located in the Hunter region of New South Wales, just 2 hours north of Sydney and 30 minutes to Newcastle. The Hunter Region encompasses charming towns and villages, rolling vineyards and splendid National Parks of the Hunter Valley, the Upper Hunter and Barrington Tops. Only 30 minutes to Newcastle and its pristine world renowned beaches of the beautiful calm waters of Port Stephens, you will find the perfect balance of coastline and countryside.

Selection Criteria

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or suitable overseas specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience Experience working in a department with significant paediatric activity Experience in or knowledge of programs for improving the organisation and delivery of care in Emergency Medicine Demonstrated ability to actively seek out improvements to service delivery, initiating change and consulting with those affected by the changes; allocating resources and proactively managing potential conflicts Demonstrated capacity of maintaining knowledge of legal, regulatory, market and technological developments and anticipating the impact on business areas and plans accordingly
