About the role

Mater Respiratory Medicine Department based at the South Brisbane campus, has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and exceptional Respiratory and Sleep Scientist to enrich their career by joining the team on a casual basis.

About Mater Respiratory Medicine
The Mater Respiratory Medicine Department provides a Respiratory Clinical Measurement service to patients of Mater Health and the Outpatient Clinics, linking with other specialty units including Haematology Oncology, Cardiology, Rheumatology, as well as other internal medicine disciplines and surgery within the hospital and other subspecialty thoracic services in Brisbane.

Salary range: $32.51 - $49.13 (Health Practitioner Level 3) per hour plus superannuation and casual loading

What you’ll be doing

As a member of a multidisciplinary team of Medical, Scientific, Nursing and Administrative Staff, you will provide a routine level of Respiratory and Sleep Clinical Measurement services to patients of Mater Health Services with prescribed professional guidelines and ethical standards. A Clinical Scientist is involved in all aspects of respiratory function and sleep assessment including patient testing, interpretation of test results, maintenance of equipment, development/evaluation of new methods and quality assurance under the supervision of Senior Scientific Clinical Measurement staff.

About you

Suitable applicants will require:

  • Tertiary qualification in Science, Applied Science or equivalent with a high component of physiology or other relevant biological subjects
  • Extensive knowledge of sleep and respiratory physiology and of the operation and application of contemporary clinical physiological monitoring equipment
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in a similar role, including conducting advanced sleep scientific duties
  • Computer literacy and experience utilising Compumedics PSG system and ability to troubleshoot independently
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to effectively interact with other staff, patients or clients and members of the public

Highly desirable

  • Certified Respiratory Function Scientist credential
  • Postgraduate qualification in Respiratory Science
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential

Appointment to this position requires the successful candidate to provide proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
