Purpose of Position The position of Director of Department Central Coast Emergency Medicine, Wyong Emergency Department is to work in collaboration with the Divisional Manager & Director Emergency Medicine CCLHD, to lead, develop, and maintain Emergency Medicine services at the highest possible level of quality and safety. The position has delegated responsibility for the clinical governance of the service, including clinical quality and safety. The position has direct responsibility for the senior and junior medical workforce, including the recruitment, retention and leadership of the medical workforce. The position has the responsibility for the oversight of supervision, education and training of all clinical staff in conjunction, with senior nursing and allied staff, and is required to support and develop clinicians to become active participants within the learning and performance oriented culture of Emergency Medicine Services of CCLHD. In addition to the normal Senior Medical Practitioner position description for the relevant clinical specialty, the incumbent will work in partnership with the Area Director in order to ensure that the Department provides high quality health care services with safe, efficient and effective use of allocated resources, in line with the organisational objectives, the Clinical Services Plan and the Division. Central Coast LHD, NSW is looking for a dynamic Emergency Physician to join us and take on the role of Director of Wyong Emergency Department. Central Coast LHD is situated between Sydney and Newcastle, and a close drive to both. Surrounded by fantastic beaches and bushland it is an idyllic area to live and work. Central Coast LHD consists of the two geographical regions, Wyong and Gosford. The Wyong area has been an area of rapid growth, with a parallel growth in ED presentations, now close to 70,000 presentations per year. This growth is expected to continue. A hospital expansion has been funded with a new Emergency Department being designed, so there is an opportunity to be involved with the design phase from the beginning, with the support of the Area Director of Emergency Services, and the Gosford senior ED team, who are completing the Gosford ED redevelopment currently. Wyong and Gosford EDs are networked, with a total of 130,000 presentations per year, with a combined research program, networked ACEM training, and links being development to a new Central Coast Clinical School. Wyong ED is staffed by Emergency Physicians 16 hours per day, 7 days per week, with a recent expansion in numbers ensuring a young enthusiastic group of new consultants. The Wyong Director will report directly to the Area Director, Emergency Services, but also liaise closely with the Director of Clinical Operations, and Wyong Hospital Executive. The successful candidate to be placed into the role of ED Director will be expected to have high levels of clinical competency and lead by example on the ED floor, be a successful communicator and negotiator in working with all staff across the hospital and LHD, and work closely with the nursing and allied health teams to ensure collaborative models of care are constantly being reviewed and refined.
