Advanced Trainees in Geriatric Medicine

• Advanced Trainee - full time - 5 positions

Thank you for your interest in a position as an Advanced Trainee in Geriatric Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital in 2019.



Five Advanced Trainees will be appointed to the Department of Geriatric Medicine. Trainees will have 4 monthly rotations to St Vincent’s campus in Fitzroy and St George’s Hospital in Kew. Three trainees will have an external rotation to Austin/Northern Health.

At St Vincent’s, we take your training seriously. St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne is the lead hospital for the Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program (VGMTP). We are part of the Northern Training Alliance. St Vincent’s is accredited with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for 24months of core training in Geriatric Medicine.

We offer our trainees a supportive and friendly working environment. Individualised training programs are developed across a range of clinical services including GEM, specialty clinics, and consultation service, ACAS, Residential Care-In Reach Program and Psychiatry of Old Age. The specialty clinics include Geriatric Medical, memory (CADMs), Continence, Falls & Balance, and Pain Management. Commencement of new services at St Vincent’s will enhance training opportunities. The external rotation to Austin and Northern Health is very popular and designed to enhance the breadth of clinical experience.


Trainees are entitled to five hours per week of training including journal club, clinical and QA meetings, grand rounds, fortnightly state wide training, alliance training and project time. There is emphasis developing clinical leadership skills and working with multi-disciplinary teams. There is opportunity to participate in research, hospital committees and service development.

• Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training program will send out regular updates. Contact VGMTP to receive these updates

• The centralised match will be held in two stages. Please note that the closing date for applications with SVHM are different to the RACP closing dates.
• Continuing advanced trainees may participate in the first round match. The closing date for applications to SVHM is 23st July, 2018
• New Advanced trainees may participate in the second-round match. Closing date for applications to SVHM is 27th August, 2018
• Three referees are required. This may be done through the RACP ATMS
