Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering primary and clinical health care services to the Aboriginal people in Katherine and surrounding communities. Wurli prides itself on delivering a range of health services to the community in a style and manner that makes clients fell welcome and comfortable. Services include acute and general care, chronic disease, men's health, alcohol and other drugs, social and emotional wellbeing and client support services. Katherine Individual Support Program is looking for a suitably qualified / experienced Occupational Therapist to join the team.

The Katherine Individual Support Program (KISP) is the overarching collaborative case management approach with other key Katherine agencies to address the needs of people who struggle with a combination of chronic ill health, addiction, social and emotional, and homelessness. The Wurli-Wurlinjang Wellbeing Unit's contribution to KISP will provide a holistic approach to addressing the needs of individuals identified by the Katherine Hospital, who present with comorbid complexities. The Wellbeing KISP team will work in partnership with clients, and the homeless community to provide a culturally appropriate and comprehensive service that's strongly influenced by the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework and a recovery focused model of care.

The role of the  Occupational Therapist is to assist provide  a strong evidence based framework that aims to empower individuals who are currently experiencing injury, illness, disability or psychological dysfunction, while living rough in the Katherine town.  The Occupational Therapist will be required to work in partnership with the other team support workers to develop and implement care plans that assist KISP individuals in recovery and promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:-

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and culture, including issues effecting communities
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in addressing the social determinants of health with a particular focus on dual diagnosis, and disability.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand and conduct multiple evaluation methods and techniques
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the impact that addiction, mental health and disability has on mind, body, spirit, and family.

Summary of terms and conditions of employment

  • An ordinary working week of 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday.
