A vacancy exists for an experienced Clinical Coder within the Health Information Services at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. The Clinical Coder is responsible for the clinical coding of inpatient episodes using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems; 10th Edition, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM).
The coding team at SVPHS is involved with continuous auditing, education and training. The primary responsibility of a clinical coder is the accurate translation of narrative descriptions of diseases, injuries and procedures into alphanumeric codes using ICD-10-AM and the correct assignment of the DRG within the relevant timeframes.
Selection Criteria:
- Completion of a recognised coding course or tertiary qualification in Health Information Management
- A minimum of 12 months coding experience in a hospital using ICD-10-AM
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail and proven ability to prioritise tasks
- Ability to work independently and use available resource materials
- Understanding of Diagnosis Related Groups as per episode funding principles
