BARWON HEALTH EMERGENCY REGISTRARS 2019

As Victoria’s largest regional health service and the site of the first Director of Casualty, the Emergency Department at University Hospital Geelong prides itself on providing excellent care for the population of Geelong and the greater South West region of Victoria.

With an annual census of >70,000 patients, 25% paediatric presentations, access to all of the major specialties except Neurosurgery and exposure to major trauma and marine toxinology, there is plenty of stimulating work to go around.

Situated on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula, there are plenty of places to while away your non work hours and achieve some much needed work life balance.

As an ED registrar, you have access to:

  • 24 months accredited advanced ED training time 
  • 3 or 6 month rotations in:
    • ICU
    • Anaesthetics
    • Paediatrics
    • General Medicine
    • Obstetrics and Gynaecology 
  • 6 month rotation to Colac (no night shift, evenings or weekends)
    • 2 days per week in urgent care centre
    • 1.5 days per week in theatre with GP anaesthetist
    • 0.5 days per week performing audit
  • 3 or 6 month rotation to St John of God Geelong ED
    • Work one on one with FACEMs on each shift
    • No night shift currently
    • Linked accreditation enables participation in ED teaching at University Hospital Geelong 
    • 5 hours paid teaching time per week
    • Annual success in primary and fellowship examinations owing to robust study programs, including Dr Tom Reade’s fellowship written course
    • Well organized WBA roster to ensure completion of requirements
    • Research opportunities both to fulfil trainee research requirement or for interests sake
