Purpose of Position Westmead Hospital Permanent 0.6FTE Staff Specialist Familial Cancer Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Familial Cancer. Successful applicants will be required to provide clinical services related to cancer genetics at Westmead but also to provide outreach services usually by Telehealth as required. The applicant will be required to contribute actively to quality assurance, education, training and research activities across the cancer network and more generally for the advancement of cancer genetics in NSW/Australia and to integrate well into cancer care. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed. Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District. Selection Criteria • Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. • Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency • Sound clinical knowledge in all aspects of cancer genetics demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. • Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including: high level interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team, experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice, demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision. • Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department. • Demonstrated sound clinical knowledge and broad practical experience in all aspects of cancer genetics through successful clinical practice in a tertiary referral, teaching hospital environment. • Track record of academic achievement and leadership commensurate with opportunity and seniority. • Highly regarded professional relationships and recognised ability to work co-operatively and effectively within a complex multidisciplinary team, using high level interpersonal and communication skills.
