Purpose of Position

This role is to provide firstly a clinical management and consultation service to patients with conditions applicable to the sub-specialty of Emergency Medicine and participate in an appropriate on-call roster for Central Coast Local Health District, secondly to provide education, supervision and support to junior medical staff, and thirdly to engage in ongoing quality assurance activities both at the Departmental and District Level and additionally as directed by the Executive Director of Medical Services.

This position is primarily located at Wyong Emergency Department, there may be on occasion arise the need to work at Gosford ED, although these shifts would not be on call. Clinicians are reminded that all clinicians are employed on an area basis and variation in service may occur subject to process articulated within the Visiting Medical Officer Determination.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Emergency Medicine, Wyong Hospital, occassionally Gosford Hospital may arise, Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD. 

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Visiting Medical Officer Determination.

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Visiting Medical Officer Determination.

Selection Criteria

• Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number. • Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and / or other equivalent specialist recognition. • Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine. • Ability to work constructively and effectively in a Multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills. • Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and supervise ED trainees, JMOs and medical students; eg teaching the management of the deteriorating patient would be advantageous. • Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies. • Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
