About the Organisation

The name Derbarl Yerrigan is the Wadjuk Noongar name for the Swan River. Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (DYHSAC) has a proud history of providing Aboriginal health services within the Perth metropolitan area and in 1974 was the first Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service to be established in Australia. DYHSAC has now grown to have four successful, busy clinics across the Perth metro area, delivering comprehensive healthcare and specialised programs along with an accommodation centre for clients requiring medical treatment away from home or Country. Our mission is to provide high quality, holistic and culturally secure health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in the Perth metropolitan region.

About the Opportunity

DYHSAC is currently seeking suitably experienced Medical Receptionists to join our team and provide exceptional frontline customer service to our clients. Opportunities exist across our East Perth, Mirrabooka, Midland and Maddington practices. Permanent and casual pool positions are required.

Please note: Aboriginality is a genuine requirement for this position as per Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Receive, register, input and maintain client details on the computerised Communicare System
  • Talk with medical, clinical and other staff about client attendance at clinic
  • Electronically generate and print client attendance documents and identification labels
  • Prepare medical files for the following day's clinic
  • Operate and maintain label printer.

    About the Successful Person

    You will be:

  • Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander pursuant to section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act
  • Professional and maintain client confidentiality at all times
  • A confident verbal communicator with people from all walks of life, including managing client enquiries and concerns
  • Someone who:
    • Thrives in a challenging, busy customer service environment;
    • Takes pride in your work, displays high levels of accuracy and attention to detail; and
    • Is able to work independently, show initiative and work productively within a team environment
  • Able to display a sound working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of basic medical terminology

    Previous medical reception experience and an understanding of basic medical terminology are preferred.  Formal qualifications in Medical Reception e.g. Completion of an AMA Medical Reception Course or similar or Certificate III in Health Administration would be highly regarded.

    It is an essential requirement for this position to undertake a National Police Check.
