Hallis’ specialist Not for Profit team is delighted to be working exclusively with the Benevolent Society in the recruitment of their Partners in Community teams for the rollout of the NDIA’s Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) service. These teams will cover multiple locations across Brisbane North/South, Beenleigh/ Logan (including Redlands) from July 2018 and Caboolture/ Strathpine from 1 January 2019.
 
The Opportunity:
 
The ECEI approach supports families to help children, aged 0-6 who have a developmental delay or disability, to develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities and achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their life. The Benevolent Society’s ECEI teams will provide a family centred approach that supports greater inclusion in mainstream settings and builds the capacity of a child and their family.
 
You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide early intervention services and assessments for children with a development delay and/or disability and their families. Reporting to the Team Leader, alongside other professionals, such as Child Development Specialists, Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists, you will work collaboratively to undertake and document assessments, provide short-term early intervention therapies, identify strengths, promote positive family relationships, and develop individualised support plans for on-boarding to the NDIS as appropriate.
 
In this pivotal role your demonstrated ability to work closely with children who have a developmental delay and/or disability and their families to meet positive, outcome focused goals and milestones will be highly regarded. You will need:
 
  • Recognised qualifications and experience in Speech Pathology.
  • Eligibility for membership as a speech pathologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • Previous experience working with children, young people and parents/care givers where the children and/or young people have complex needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, young people and adults and proven ability to establish meaningful relationships with young children and their families.
  • Experience in coordinating the delivery of speech therapy early intervention services to asses, diagnose and treat children and young people with communication and/or feeding delays and disorders.
  • Understanding of the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development.
  • Demonstrated success in providing therapeutic intervention designed to enable young children to attain developmental milestones, with the aim of deferring development of lifelong disability.
  • Ability to support children, team members, carers, schools and families to better understand the role of speech pathologist and the benefits for children and their families.
  • To coach, advise and provide on the job support to team members and carers to improve their skills and knowledge in the areas of developmental milestones development and evidence-based interventions and practice to improve outcomes.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of individual and group programmes that support families to recognise their children’s full potential.
  • Ability to assess circumstances from multiple views and understand underlying agendas.
  • To act as a subject matter expert in the areas of child development and speech pathology.
  • Ability to translate complex theories in an easily understood, practical way.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to early intervention as a strategy to optimise child outcomes.
  • An understanding of the needs of diverse communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), and gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based programs and therapies to optimise child development, health and learning.
  • At least 12 months experience working with children and/or families in an Early Childhood Education focused role, including experience developing individual and group intervention plans.
  • An excellent understanding of child protection issues and potential vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development.
  • A current driver’s license, Positive Notice from Disability Services and Blue Card.
