The opportunity: Head of Research & Development

The Head of Research and Development will develop and oversee the Evolution Health R&D Department at a strategic and tactical level. You will ensure that we are at the forefront of microbiome and probiotic research globally to identify and anticipate market demand developing and executing strategy for disruptive innovation and development of new and existing products as well as new technologies, to remain ahead and competitive in the industry on a global scale. Developing and leading four main business units you will direct clinical research and all phases of technical product development from ideation to commercialisation. With exceptional leadership and people skills as well as a strong commercial acumen to effectively manage the budgets and resources necessary ensuring the viability of concepts and product development on time and within budget. Key to your success will be partnering with our key external stakeholders, suppliers, co-manufacturers and internal cross functional teams to effectively prioritise opportunities and resources needed to deliver business outcomes in a fast-paced, fast growth company. Primarily the focus of this role is on project management and concept development but as the Head of R&D you will need the scientific knowledge, business acumen, insight and people skills to develop, guide and mentor the entire department.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a high performing R&D Department that drives the innovation of new and eisting product development and new technologies needed to remain ahead of the industy globally
• Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of our research strategy and research governance function to stay ahead of the market and industry
• Lead the development, implementation and evaluation our and clinical studies strategy
• Ensure that Evolution Health stays ahead of the research and clinical studies to drive the innovation of new and existing products and categories that are aligned with our strategic vision and integral to Evolution Health's competitive positioning and profitability
• Identify strategies, generate innovative ideas, establish priorities and department goals, and monitor execution of product development activities that support new product initiatives, quality improvements and other company initiatives
• Use your technical knowledge and understanding of each business units function to oversee the strategies, projects, specific objectives and ensure they are aligned with company objectives and brand promise.
• Develop and implement technical plans in partnership with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver on strategic goals
• Direct the R&D team to discover and uncover the latest research that drives innovation of product and technologies from concept to commercialisation
• Direct and lead research team to improve and substantiate scientific product claims to strengthen our market position
• Oversee that the scientific technical information, evidence-based research and clinical trials are communicated effectively to relevant business units and stakeholders to support innovation of product and education globally.
• Use leading research and clinical study programs to deliver scientific communication and education strategy and its implementation and dissemination of claims and information to relevant Evolution Health teams and Key Opinion leaders/ influencers.
• Drive accountability of each business unit and foster an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset across the entire department
• Engage with key Life Science Industry associations, Universities, Medical Research Institutes and Biotechnology / Nutraceutical companies globally to stay ahead of the science, research and technology in our field

Skills and Experience needed:

• Bachelor's Degree / master's in science
• +5yrs experience leading and managing R&D Department/ clinical research team
• +5yrs experience in product research and development
• Strong knowledge in microbiology / probiotics
• Exceptional demonstrated project management skills
• Proficient in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Data Management
• Exceptional communication skills in English both verbal and written
• Dynamic and confident presenter to communicate scientific information and concepts
• Demonstrated experience and skills in strategic planning and budget management and reporting
• High organisational skills and capable of handling multiple projects within multi-functional team
• International experience highly regarded
• Entrepreneurial spirit, with high level of initiative and accountability
• Understanding and passion for the Healthcare Sector
• Demonstrated experience in developing, leading and overseeing a multi-function, multi-unit department delivering common business outcomes and responsible for multiple reports
• Demonstrated experience establishing, maintaining and strengthening internal and external Key stakeholder relationships which support and promote strategic objectives
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of heading up a R&D research team
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross functional teams and business units to achieve common business outcomes
• A proven leader with experience in negotiation and influencing key stakeholders and cross functional teams
• Experience in linking Research and Development with commercial applications and viability
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a high workload and prioritise competing demands to meet deadlines by using initiative, judgement, and problem-solving skills to ensure completion on time and within budget
• Commercial acumen to assign budgets and resources to projects ensuring financial viability.
• Experience in planning, managing, monitoring and reporting on budget expenditure
• Knowledge of market and category trends the field of microbiology / probiotic category
