About Us

Parramatta Mission offers community-managed programs and services, and we are largely funded by the Commonwealth and NSW governments. We work to assist people living with mental illness; family members or carers of people with mental illness; young people; those living in crisis (e.g. financial or emotional crisis); and  vulnerable communities or groups. We also provide food, accommodation and support services to assist the most vulnerable people in our community. This includes crisis and transitional accommodation, meals and emergency food assistance.

Program Description

headspace is Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation. headspace aims to reduce the burden of disease in young people aged 12-25 years caused by mental health and related substance use disorders through early identification and effective, evidence-based intervention. Services are delivered by primary care and specialist providers working together within a unified, accessible and integrated service framework.  headspace provides young people with support and information for a broad range of concerns, including Mental health, Physical/sexual health, Alcohol and Other drugs, educational and vocational assistance and Support for families and carers.

headspace offers services to young people through a Primary Care model, while headspace Mount Druitt, also delivers the headspace Youth Early Psychosis Program (hYEPP). The headspace Primary Care program offers an “open door”, easily accessible, early intervention service for young people wishing to obtain support for mental health or substance use issues. The hYEPP program is a specialist service which focuses on providing comprehensive services to support young people who are at risk of developing a psychotic illness, or those who have experienced a first episode of psychosis.

Position Purpose

  • The facilitation of an accessible, evidence-based early intervention service for young people.
  • To provide support, guidance, clinical training and mentoring support to a team of youth clinicians.
  • To lead and coordinate appropriate care for young people accessing headspace Primary Care services at Mount Druitt.
  • To reduce the duration of untreated mental health presentations in order to minimise the impact of a mental health presentation on the normal developmental trajectory of the young person
  • To minimise the subjective distress of young people and their families associated with the experience of a mental health presentation
  • To ensure that quality evidence-informed treatment and assessment services are available to young people, and that young people have access to all aspects of the headspace model where appropriate to achieve the best possible outcome.
  • To maximise continuity of care for young people accessing services available within headspace, by facilitating the communication and integration of service providers.

Selection Criteria

  1. Approved tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline and eligibility for membership with AHPRA or the appropriate professional body
  2. Substantial experience (minimum 3 years) and proven expertise in the application of evidence-based clinical practice within the area of youth mental health. This includes:
  3. Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving, and negotiation skills
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other professionals and to lead a multi-disciplinary team, as well as proven ability to be self-motivated and function autonomously
  5. Flexibility in coping with organisational change and demonstrated capacity to be innovative in clinical approaches with young people
  6. Demonstrated commitment to clinical supervision and ongoing professional development for own practice as well as staff development
  7. Commitment to developing and engaging in any workforce development strategies
  8. Experience in, and ability to lead and manage a clinical team, including (staff recruitment, performance management, maintaining up-to-date documentation of clinical care, reports and summaries as required and ability to create a team culture that is based on hope, optimism and a recovery framework for young people)
  9. Ability to use relevant information technology, electronic recording systems and data management tools
