The Opportunity

The position of Behaviour Support Practitioner is responsible for providing high quality leadership and support in the implementation of positive behaviour support for children, young people and adults presenting with behaviours of concern. 

Responsibilities include:

  • To provide positive behaviour support on a day to day basis in line with Sunnyfield's Behaviour Support Service operating guidelines;
  • To ensure positive behaviour support services are delivered on a best-practice basis;
  • To make daily operational recommendations and decisions as required;
  • Ensure the Senior Manager, Clinical Services is well informed as to the status and outcomes of services as required;
  • Collect and collate information for regular reports as required;
  • Investigate, develop, implement and evaluate best-practice in positive behaviour support operations and outcomes;
  • Seek evaluation and feedback from families, staff and clients;
  • Provide appropriate outcome measures for positive behaviour support outcomes;
  • Provide operating guidelines to key stakeholders;

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Clinical Services, the successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or Special Education.
  • Successful experience working with and supporting people with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviours;
  • Current knowledge and experience in assessment, planning and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support for people with a disability.
  • Experience and training in implementing Positive Behaviour Support and / or Applied Behaviour Analysis.
  • Experience leading significant initiatives relevant to the discipline of behaviour support (e.g. design and delivery of training packages, service system reviews).
  • Experience providing parent and staff training.
  • Experience working collaboratively with parents/carers.
  • Awareness of relevant service providers across government & not-for-profit sectors.
  • Awareness of NDIS funding
  • Excellent communication and independent work skills.
  • Current driver's licence
