About the role

The position is full-time and will be primarily based within the Rockhampton Children and Family Centre, reporting directly to the Centre Manager. The successful candidate is responsible for working in conjunction with a small multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of culturally appropriate Occupational Therapy and supportive healthcare services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community; including but not limited to paediatrics, school-based programs, The Work it Out program – for Chronic Disease Self-Management and Rehabilitation and the Rockhampton Children and Family Centre client base.

 

The Rockhampton Children and Family Centre works with families with children from 0-8 to access services of early childhood education and care; child and maternal health; parent and family support. Key Requirements (Key Selection Criteria):

  1. Qualified as an occupational therapist with unconditional registration through AHPRA with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia with currency of practice
  2. Demonstrated ability to comply with the profession’s code of ethics and function in accordance with legislation affecting occupational therapy practice.
  3. Working knowledge of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a strong commitment to improving health outcomes;
  4. Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
  5. Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control;
  6. Demonstrated skill in working in a primary care setting, in particular the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with a sound understanding of your role in the cycle of care for a client;
  7. Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skills, confidentiality and record keeping;
  8. Computer skills – able to work effectively with electronic client record systems
  9. Additional Factors:
  • Possession of a current 'C' Class Driver's Licence valid in Queensland is required;
  • Must be able to obtain a Blue Card with the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian;
  • Must be able to obtain a Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check;
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certificate;

The Bidgerdii Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Community Health Services (Bidgerdii) is responsible for providing a safe, friendly, confidential and culturally appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care service in line with community needs and consistent with relevant National and State Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health frameworks.  Bidgerdii provides a public primary health care service incorporating a bulk-billing general practice medical clinic, an individual support and counselling service, health screening, health promotion activities and a children and family centre.
