Your part-time role

In the Army Reserve, Doctors (also known as Medical Officers) work across many disciplines including:

  • primary care
  • occupational medicine
  • trauma and rehabilitation
  • sports medicine
  • public health medicine
  • tropical medicine
  • medical administration, and
  • population health.

As a Reservist you will be given a flexible role that suits and complements your current medical expertise and commitments.

You may also be offered opportunities to travel and perform your duties in adverse conditions with minimal support, which can be both challenging and rewarding. The new skills and techniques you acquire in the Army Reserve will build on and benefit your medical career ‘back home’.

Commitment

  • Specialist Service Officer Course (26 days and 16 days at separate times)
  • Serve between 20 and 100 days each year (at least 50 days preferred)
  • Fit service around your existing work and family commitments

  • Training in Canberra, ACT
  • Posting to an Army unit close to where you live

Pay

  • Fully-paid leadership training
  • Starting package $245.52 per day tax free
  • Pay increases with rank and experience

Entry Requirements

  • Australian Citizen    
  • A degree in Medicine from a recognised institution
  • Completion of Hospital Internship
  • Registered to practice as a Doctor in a State or Territory of Australia
