Why join the Army Reserve?

If you're looking for a new challenge, the Army Reserve could be for you. You'll enjoy the satisfaction of giving something back to Australia, while benefitting from:

  • tax-free daily pay
  • free healthcare and accommodation when serving
  • a flexible commitment
  • rewarding work
  • comprehensive training
  • a supportive team environment
  • friendships that last a lifetime

All that plus exciting opportunities supporting Army domestic activities, including exercises and operations, with potential deployments overseas in support of Australian and coalition personnel.

Your part-time role

For the Army to operate at peak capability it has to be fit and healthy. So Preventive Medicine is critical, working to minimise the risks posed by climate, non-combat injuries, unsanitary conditions and vector-borne diseases.

Right now we're recruiting Environmental Health Assistants (also known as Preventive Medicine Technicians) for the Army Reserve to help reduce the impact these dangers have on Army operations. If you enjoy science and like the idea of working in an exciting, outdoor environment, this could be a great way to spend the occasional weekend or days off work.

In this rewarding role you’ll be trained to study, assess and control environmental and occupational health threats. In the field that means ensuring troops are camped in areas that have been swept for hazards, and that any issues revealed have been addressed.

The factors you’ll consider will include:

  • water quality
  • pests
  • food safety
  • waste management, and sanitation.

So do you believe you have the commitment and qualities to become an Environmental Health Assistant (Preventive Medicine Technician) in the Army Reserve? Then apply now.

Commitment

  • Initial 35-day military training course
  • 13-day Preventive Medicine course (module one)
  • Serve between 20 and 100 days each year (at least 50 days preferred)
  • Fit service around your existing work and family commitments

The Army provides special resources to help you approach your employer about your ambition to serve as a Reservist.

Location

  • Training in Wagga Wagga, NSW and Bandiana, VIC
  • Posting to an Army unit close to where you live

Pay

  • Fully-paid training
  • Once trained, starting package $159.22 per day tax free
  • Pay  increases with rank and experience

Entry Requirements

  • At least 17 years of age
  • Australian Citizen
  • Year 10 completion with passes in English and Mathematics

Medical and fitness guidelines also apply.
