Detail information about job Project Officer - Biospecimen Bank. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Join a high achieving team
  • Coordination biospecimen banking projects in a clinical setting
  • Participate in translational melanoma research

The Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is a world leader in melanoma research, clinical care and education. An independent, non - profit organisation, the Institute is formally affiliated with the University of Sydney and collaborates with clinicians at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the Royal North Shore Hospital, Westmead Hospital and St Vincent’s and Mater Health to improve the outcome of patients with melanoma.  Our team of clinicians sees approximately 1200 new melanoma patients each year and lead clinical trials of novel agents, including investigator initiated clinical and translational studies.

The Institute is seeking a Project Officer to support the melanoma research activities. As part of the Biospecimen Bank team located in Wollstonecraft, your main role will be to manage blood-based projects of the Institute. This includes the ongoing collection and processing of bio-marker blood samples from patients being treated with systemic therapy for advanced metastatic melanoma at pre-agreed timepoints.

You will coordinate the identification of patient cohorts, determine dates for blood collection, collating patient information in a project database. You will provide ongoing updates to the lead investigator and be actively involved in sample identification,  processing and retrieval for off-site analysis. You will work closely with the project staff at other centres, and you will be responsible for patients’ activity at the Poche Centre.  You will identify relevant pathology reports and request tissue blocks from RPAH Tissue Pathology and outside sites as required. You will also work closely with the MIA Biospecimen Bank on a daily basis.

To succeed in this role, you will combine your previous project management or clinical trials coordination experience with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively both independently and in a team. You may need to work across multiple sites and be available to meet research deadlines or for collection of specimens. You will be highly organized, have excellent attention to detail, initiative and ability to prioritise work to achieve goals. Prior experience working with cancer patients and performing venipuncture is desirable.

Applicants will have a BSc  in a relevant discipline or be a Registered Nurse, with at least 2 years project management or clinical trials experience. Prior experience in tissue banking is desirable. Further Information about Melanoma Institute Australia can be found at www.melanoma.org.au
