You will be required to fulfil a variety of tasks, which requires a diverse and varied skill set. The responsibilities of the role include dispensing of general and chemotherapy medicines, imprest and pharmacy inventory management, participating in stocktake, managing short dated and expired stock, data entry, preparation of aseptic compounded pharmaceuticals and participation in clinical trials and patient access programs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and dispense medications to patients and wards, including trial and special access medications, ensuring all prescriptions conform to State legislative and site procedural requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme where applicable
  • Prepare aseptic compounded pharmaceuticals including chemotherapy and other aseptically prepared products using a Cytotoxic Isolator Cabinet
  • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of specialised compounding equipment and upkeep of relevant logs and standards
  • Assists in management of inventory of pharmaceuticals and consumables
  • Liaise with hospital staff and associated employees as required
  • Assists with management of PBS prescriptions
  • Participates in processes and initiatives to improve work practices and procedures to improve patient care and departmental outcomes

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with dispensing of medications and the ability to select stock and dispense quickly and accurately. FRED dispense experience desired but not essential.
  • Recent experience in aseptic compounding within a cytotoxic isolator, Cytotoxic Safety Cabinet (CDSC) or laminar flow hood with past experience in Oncology or within a hospital or similar environment
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative but also integrate and cooperate well within a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and all levels of hospital staff
  • Proven ability to deliver a high standard of customer service
  • Ability to address client needs with confidentiality, sensitivity and professionalism
  • 2+ years pharmacy experience
