About the organisation

The Buttery is a not-for-profit, charitable rehab organisation providing both residential addiction rehab and a number of community outreach programs in the NSW Northern Rivers Region.

The Buttery’s Therapeutic Community Program is regarded as one of the oldest and most successful providers of drug and alcohol recovery-oriented services in Australia. The TC Program offers a long term residential rehabilitation service for people wishing to address their drug and alcohol issue. Located just outside Byron in the beautiful Hinterlands a moments’ drive from Bangalow town centre.

About the role

In the role of Drug and Alcohol Counsellor you will work as part of a dedicated and experienced team reporting to the Program Coordinator, bringing your suitable qualifications and demonstrated experience in the Therapeutic Community setting.

Providing a combination of psychoeducation, individual and group counselling support and on some occasions working to address female specific issues in relation to past trauma. Set in a tranquil environment where residents are encouraged to take part in activities including yoga, meditation, music, art, exercise and gardening. You will be willing to and engage in all aspects of The TC's outstanding service delivery program.

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week over 4 days / 6 weeks annual leave / Great work life balance.

About you

You will be highly experienced supporting people who wish to address their drug and alcohol issue with knowledge of the Therapeutic Community method of recovery model.

As an individual you will have a high level of personal and professional integrity, be comfortable speaking and owning your truth with the ability to actively listen to others with respect and compassion.

To be successful for this role you will have;

  • Tertiary qualifications in Alcohol & Other Drug Services or equivalent
  • A strong understanding, passion and experience working within a Therapeutic Community
  • An understanding of the recovery model and psychosocial rehabilitation
  • Experience and/or understanding of working with clients on maintenance medication
  • Specialists experience in supporting clients to address female specific issues. 
  • High level and effective communication skills
  • Resilience to working under pressure with the ability to conscientiously self-reflect
  • Demonstrated group facilitation and one-to-one counselling skills
  • Knowledge of relevant NSW and national health legislation
  • Intermediate computer literacy skills
  • Hold a current and full manual NSW driver's license and be comfortable driving company vehicles 

All successful applicants must be willing to undergo a national police check and provide a current WWCC check.
