Our Dad lives alone in a lovely retirement village in the Port Stephens area.
Dad is 93 y.o. and is independent and moderately active. He is very mentally aware and lucid, a great conversationalist and an avid crossword fan. He is also a talented and enthusiastic pianist.
His household runs well with daily assistance of personal and domestic care but needs a lady to oversee and manage the household 2-3 hours per day for 4 or 5 days p/wk including providing companion care to Dad. Flexibility is desired to accommodate medical appointments etc. Weekly nutritious meal planning is required and cooking for lunch each day.
Personal qualities we seek include being fit and having an intuitive ability for kindliness, creative / playful engagement with an elderly person. Current drivers’ licence and car is essential and prior experience in personal in-home care of an elderly adult or professional nursing/caring qualifications would be well regarded. Workcover and P/L insurance is provided. Applicants living in Nelson Bay area preferred.
The position is very varied and would include the following tasks....
Personal Care - Supervise/ prompt/ assist with personal hygiene and grooming.
Companion - .....his planning by prompting him to record in his diary and sync this with the household calendar used to monitor medical/personal and family appointments.
Staff - You will be responsible for rostering, monitoring and liaising with other staff. This will include lodging wages and managing petty cash.
Errands - Dad attends to some of his own shopping but you will be required to attend errands and supplement shopping.
Meals - You will be required to prepare a nutritious balanced diet that caters to likes/dislikes but will also provide variety, flexibility and maintain weight.
Domestic/Cleaning and House Management - The position will require cooking and basic cleaning as well as the management of a clean safe and efficient household.
Health - You will be required to monitor Dad's health status. This will include supervising medication and being on the lookout for signs and symptoms of anything that could impair his health. You will need to monitor/accompany to medical appointments.
