For 100 years the Queen Elizabeth Centre (QEC) has provided specialised care, support and guidance to help parents manage the many challenges that arise during early parenthood, from before birth until 48 months. Many of our families are exposed to serious adversity including family violence, trauma, alcohol and substances abuse and mental health problems leading to reduced capacity to provide safe, consisted parenting. Our programs support families to achieve better life outcomes for their children, transform and develop family resilience, community connections and develop stronger social capital.
The QEC residential unit based at Noble Park provides 1, 5 and 10 day programs for caregivers experiencing challenges with parenting. Families are provided with practical support, education and advice whilst residing at QEC. Our practitioners assist families to develop an action plan, identifying goals they would like to achieve during their stay at QEC. We provide individual coaching, counselling and modelling to support this.
The QEC Infant and Family Mental Health Service promotes and enhances positive outcomes for the mental health and wellbeing of infants, parents and their families. The Infant & Family Mental Health Specialist is part of a multi-disciplinary team which supports the development of optimum attachment relationships between infants and their parents/ carers to provide a strong foundation for future mental, physical and developmental health outcomes. The QEC Infant & Family Mental Health Specialist will provide assessment, treatment, and evidence informed clinical interventions. Therapy will be underpinned by a framework that promotes a culturally sensitive, family centred, bio psychosocial, integrated practice.
This position will primarily focus on acute assessments of infants and parents, brief interventions and appropriate referral. Assessment and interventions are tailored to the individual needs of the infant, parent and the dyad/family.
The Infant and Family Mental Health Specialist works closely with QEC staff to participate in case discussion, planning care and group programs. The role provides secondary consultation for non-residential programs including Daystay and Play steps.

To be considered for this role you will possess:
- A tertiary qualification in Clinical Psychology
- A minimum of 3 years post qualification experience preferably working with infants and families.
- Previous experience in working with parents and families with infants experiencing severe and complex psycho social and psychiatric problems in the perinatal period with demonstrated knowledge of the impact of mental health problems and mental illness on parenting, parent-infant relationships and infant development
- Ability to conduct cognitive-behavioral and other models of treatment as applied to mothers
