Permanent Part-time

Cairns Private Hospital is leading the way in innovative Maternity care in Australia. The Clinical Midwife with a professional portfolio of the ‘Know Your Midwife’ program will provide advance Midwifery care to women choosing to participate in KYM, in consultation with their Obstetrician. The Clinical Midwife will provide continuity-of-care to women through pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum period. The Clinical Midwife will participate in the education of all levels of staff by being involved in department orientation, in-servicing and clinical competence programs, as well as undertaking mental, social and physical assessments, treatment and delivery of continuing care / case management for Maternity women, Neonates and will also make a valuable contribution to the Hospital Continuous Improvement process.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia
  • A notation with AHPRA as an Eligible Midwife, or working towards becoming an Endorsed Eligible Midwife
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in Midwifery Continuity-of-Care
  • Appointment to this position, requires appointees to work flexible hours consistent with a midwifery continuity-of-care model
  • Relevant post graduate qualification plus 3 years experience working in Midwifery
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated by the ability to engage clients, and liaise and consult with relevant family members, as well as a broad range of health professionals, and community agencies where relevant
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required
  • Understanding of scope of practice and ability to collaborate with Obstetrician
  • Sound written and computer skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in Accreditation processes, clinical indicators and other Quality projects
  • Excellent time management skills
  • It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Hepatitis B
