About the business

QCWA is a member of the CWA of A, it is one of the largest and most widespread women's organisation in Queensland. Since 1922, the QCWA has been about women from all over Queensland coming together for many different reasons, meeting new people, making new friends, learning new skills or getting involved in the community. An overall desire for friendship and helping others has banded the women of this organisation together.

About the role

The QCWA Country Kitchens program aims to support people living in regional, rural and remote Queensland to improve their health by adopting healthier eating practices. The program has engaged and up-skilled QCWA members, building capacity to support the community develop food literacy and an increased fruit and vegetable consumption.  The program has successfully empowered QCWA members to connect with local communities to work collaboratively with other agencies to promote health.

 

The Queensland Government funded program aims to support people to improve their nutrition knowledge and cooking skills to prepare healthy nutritious meals at home. The Country Kitchens team of nutritionists have partnered with local QCWA members to deliver hands on nutrition and cooking skills workshops in over 80 communities across Queensland Mermaid Beach in the south, Quilpie in the west, north to Normanton and all the countryside in between.

Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated high level knowledge, expertise and skills in contemporary public health practice, highly desireable skills in nutrition promotion and understanding of barriers as they may apply in regional, rural and remote settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply evidence-based principles to facilitate novel solutions to complex public health issues, in particular non-communicable diseases.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide public health advice (general nutrition and physical activity) and support to stakeholders to cultivate productive working relationships and networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders to cultivate productive working relationships and networks.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to define project tasks, set priorities and coordinate activities effectively to meet competing deadlines, with a track record proven and sustained.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan and manage community health promotion interventions, strategies and resources within quality, time and budget constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research and health promotion theory to inform strategic and operational coordinate and manage the collection, interpretation and translation of research and evaluation to inform evidence-based public health planning, practice and policy.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, incorporating the ability to consult, liaise, collaborate and negotiate with an extensive range of key stakeholders, including experience in establishing and managing stakeholder and communication strategies.
  • A very flexible approach to working hours, as weekend and evening work will be required.
  • You must hold a C Class motor vehicle licence.
  • Travel is a requirement of this position.
