The purpose of the Family Well Being program is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander children and their families across a range of contexts including early intervention, to keep children and young people safely at home with their families and in their communities

Gurriny’s Family Wellbeing Program is part of a partnered Regional Service lead by Wuchopperen Health Service and which also includes Mamu Health Service in Innisfail.

To be successful in this role you will require

  1. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures from an historical and contemporary perspective, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families providing direct support services that increase parent/child attachment, improve parenting skills and develop coping and resilience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to implement case management and counselling approaches to service delivery including the ability to undertake crisis intervention and work with at risk individuals and families with complex needs.
  4. Extensively developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability liaise and network with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for, and articulate the interests of, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, together with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature and meet organisational demands.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in exceptional case documentation, progress noting and reporting, including data input into specific programs
