Purpose of Position

To provide and support the development of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery services to Patients of Lismore Base Hospital in support of the Clinical Services Plan for the Clinical Network.

To support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice consistent with the teaching role of Lismore Base Hospital.

Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) seeks an experienced Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to work with its multi-disciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department.

The position will be primarily located at Lismore Base Hospital, but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services, and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointment Advisory Committee (MDAAC), to other facilities in the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position with the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery service at Lismore Base Hospital in NNSWLHD.

Applicants should have Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons (Oral Maxillofacial Surgery) and/ or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Health Insurance Act/NSW Staff Specialist (State Award). Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.  If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed

The position requires a good working knowledge and experience in current Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. The duties involve the provision of both a Consultation and Admission service for patients admitted to Lismore Base Hospital and will also provide an opportunity for teaching and research.

Lismore Base Hospital is a regional teaching hospital with a growing junior medical officer training program and strong links to Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and John Hunter Hospitals.  The Hospital and the University Centre for Rural Health have a good student program providing for Medical Students from University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of NSW and University of Western Sydney.

The successful candidate must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award).

Selection Criteria

Eligible for full Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Must be registered prior to commencement. Have Fellowship of Royal Australasian College Dental Surgery in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Medicine/Fellowship and/ or other Specialist recognition as provided for under the Health Insurance Act 1973. Ability to participate in an on call roster as required by the Northern NSW Local Health District Demonstrated commitment to teaching and continuing education. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team and provide leadership of a team Knowledge and evidence of applying quality improvement in the clinical environment
