Purpose of Position

The efficient and effective delivery of patient services in accordance with NNSWLHD and Hospital policies and standards, community needs and within budget allocation.

The provision of safe, appropriate, patient focused, outcome directed, co-ordinated quality care that meets professional standards and is based on best practice standards.

Provide and support the development of Emergency Medicine, General Medicine and Rehabilitation Services to patients of the Hospital in support of the Clinical Services Plan for the Clinical Network.

Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) seeks an experienced Career Medical Officer to work with its multi-disciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Medical, Rehabilitation and Emergency departments.

The position will be primarily located across the above Hospitals, but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services, and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointment Advisory Committee (MDAAC), to other facilities in the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above positions.

Applicants should have current unconditional Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

The position requires a good working knowledge and experience in current Medical, Rehabilitation and/or Emergency Medicine care. The duties involve the provision of both a Consultation and Admission service for patients admitted to Hospitals and will also provide an opportunity for teaching and research.

Lismore Base Hospital is a regional teaching hospital with a growing junior medical officer training program and strong links to Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and John Hunter Hospitals.  The Hospital and the University Centre for Rural Health have a good student program providing for Medical Students from University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of NSW and University of Western Sydney.

The successful candidate must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Career Medical Officers (State) Award.

Selection Criteria

Medical Practitioner with current unconditional registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Minimum three years post graduate experience as a Medical Officer to be appointed to a Career Medical Officer Grade 1. Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience to be appointed to a Career Medical Officer Grade 2 . With relevant post graduate qualifications and / or experience in General Medicine, or Emergency Medicine and completion of EMST or equivalent, or Rehabilitation. Demonstrated capacity to perform clinical duties and responsibilities at a Senior level with minimal clinical supervision and demonstrated competency in: effective assessment, care planning, care provision, case management, patient care for all categories and all ages; Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation; Airway Management, management of clinical emergencies and safe effective patient care. Demonstrated ability to provide safe, effective patient care working independently and without direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to work in a multi disciplinary team with excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to Teaching, Research and Quality.
