Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) seeks an experienced Specialist Anaesthetist to work with its multi-disciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department.

The position will be primarily located at Lismore Base Hospital, and also Anaesthesia for elective surgery at Ballina and Casino Hospitals under the auspices of the Richmond Network Surgical Service but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services, and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointment Advisory Committee (MDAAC), to other facilities in the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position with the Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine service at Lismore Base Hospital in NNSWLHD.

Applicants should have Fellowship of the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA);

and/ or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.  If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed

The position requires a good working knowledge and experience in current Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine care. The duties involve the provision of both a Consultation and Admission service for patients admitted to Lismore Base Hospital and will also provide an opportunity for teaching and research.

Lismore Base Hospital is a regional teaching hospital with a growing junior medical officer training program and strong links to Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and John Hunter Hospitals and the QARTS program.  The Hospital and the University Centre for Rural Health have a good student program providing for Medical Students from University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of NSW and University of Western Sydney.

The successful candidate must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Ministry of Health Visiting Medical Officer Sessional Determination.

Selection Criteria

Eligible for full registration as a Specialist Anaesthetist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Must be registered before commencement of position. Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia and/or specialist recognition as provided for under the Staff Specialists (State) Award and/or Health Insurance Act 1973. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and continuing Medical/ Anaesthesia education and research. Able to provide comprehensive Anaesthesia Service to Hospitals under the auspices of the Richmond Valley Surgical Services with a strong interest in acute pain management and regional Anaesthesia. Possess a current unencumbered drivers licence. Excellent skills in communication, leadership and management with demonstrated commitment to quality assurance participation in Department M&M meetings and other activities as required to support the Department. Will participate in after hours on call roster.
