About the Role

This is a terrific opportunity to work in dynamic multi-disciplinary teams offering diversity and tremendous professional development opportunities! Based at Autism Queensland's Centre of Excellence at Rockhampton, we have two current vacancies:

The first vacancy is within a multi-disciplinary team providing speech pathology services for children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families living in Rockhampton and surrounding areas, to support the educational programs, goals and outcomes of students and adults with ASD.

This role will require travel throughout the Rockhampton and Capricorn region.

The second vacancy is within our state-wide interdisciplinary team, this role will provide speech pathology services for children with ASD and their families both in Rockhampton and across Queensland, to support the educational programs and outcomes of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

This role will involve frequent intrastate travel (up to 5 days, 3 to 4 times per term) and some out of normal hours work.

Both roles involve the design, implementation and delivery of programs for children and their families in both centre-based and outreach services, including school advisory visits.

In both roles you will work collaboratively with our specialist team of experienced speech pathologists, occupational therapists, family support workers, teachers and teacher aides, and at times, you will be required to travel to Brisbane for professional development and team activities

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with all other relevant team members, design and implement programs and strategies to address the needs of individuals with an autism spectrum disorder
  • Deliver – through both centre-based and outreach services – group and individual intervention programs which are responsive to the needs of each individual, their family and relevant educational setting
  • Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with all stakeholders to ensure their participation in planning, decision making and reporting
  • Lead and participate in meetings with relevant staff members and parents to discuss current concerns and collaboratively identify specific strategies for individual children
  • Prepare, facilitate and maintain assessment, observation and progress reports as required
  • Facilitate the collaborative preparation of trans-disciplinary behavioural support and Individual Support Plans
  • Lead, coach, supervise and provide effective performance management of Program Assistants where relevant

Skills & Experience

You will have:

Essential:

  • Current Membership with Speech Pathology Australia
  • Minimum tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in speech pathology
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary methodologies in the provision of intervention services to children, and services for adults with ASD or disabilities
  • Proven knowledge of child development, behaviour and learning across lifespan

Highly desirable:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a speech pathologist, including experience in the design and implementation of therapy programs which are responsive to the individual needs of children and their families
  • Tertiary qualifications in Disability, Autism or Special Education
  • Demonstrated ability in presenting training and education programs to parents and professionals
  •  
  • Demonstrated understanding of the design and implementation of group and individual educational and/or therapy programs responsive to the individual needs of individuals and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with families and professionals in addressing the special needs of clients with ASD or disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a trans-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents, professionals and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing
  • Current open driver's license, First Aid qualification, and possess or obtain at own expense a Criminal History Screening card/s as required by legislation
