Since 1997 Bridges Health & Community Care has been providing specialist community-based mental health and psychological services, drug and alcohol treatment and a range of other programs across the Wide Bay Burnett and Central Qld region.

Bridges Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation & Treatment Service (DARTS) offers comprehensive therapeutic drug and alcohol service for both youth aged 12 years plus and adults. We also assist families and carers who may have difficulty coping with their loved ones problematic drug or alcohol issues.

About the Opportunity

Bridges Health & Community Care has a rewarding full time opportunity for a Drug & Alcohol Nurse (Grade 4-6) with experience in ambulatory withdrawal management services to join our DARTS team in Hervey Bay as we move into an enhanced phase of our service.

We are looking for a dedicated, reliable, professional with a can do flexible attitude and the ability to get along well with others.

In this role, you will be utilising your withdrawal management nursing skills to assist individual's with problematic Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) use. This may involve client assessments in relation to withdrawal options; coordination and access to withdrawal medications through local GP's etc. liaison with family members, relevant stakeholders and other practitioners involved in the individual's treatment. Your role will also include evidence-based counseling, case management, care coordination, brief interventions, community education, facilitated referrals to residential rehabilitation or other AOD services. Services will be provided in our treatment centres in Hervey Bay and Maryborough and in outreach settings where appropriate.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing detailed and expert client assessment, advice and practical assistance in relation to safe withdrawal from licit and illicit substances;
  • Liaison with both internal and external health and medical services to facilitate the above and coordinate shared care to improve client outcomes
  • Delivery of safe evidenced-based nursing, including daily observations as required.
  • Precise timely accurate record keeping and clinical notes, electronic and paper-based client files are maintained as per statutory compliance requirements; and
  • Delivering evidence based psychological and psychosocial AOD treatments in a range of settings;
  • Minimising the harm associated with the misuse of alcohol and/or drugs;
  • Improving the family functioning, social connectedness and life skills of people who misuse substances;
  • Promoting the Bridges DARTS to gain broader community awareness an enhance access for the target group.

Suitable candidates must have a minimum of 3 years experience as a nurse, preferably in a drug and alcohol treatment setting and experience working with all types of licit and illicit substances.

You'll need to be flexible and dedicated to providing best practice solutions and be able to work effectively both in a team environment as well as autonomously. Strong communication skills are essential, enabling you to liaise appropriately with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Innovative engagement strategies and strong collaborative relationships with the health and community sector will be vital.

IT and computer skills including use of databases is also essential

A solid understanding of community resources, treatment services and referral networks would be held in high regard.

To be successful you must be a registered nurse with no restrictions, hold a current drivers' licence. You must also be prepared to undergo a police check.
