About Us

The Children and Parenting Support Services (CaPSS) is a unique early intervention and prevention parenting program funded by the Commonwealth Government.  The CaPSS program forms one of the many services delivered by The Salvation Army SASHS Network. SASHS is a child safe organisation whereby the needs and rights of children are upheld and respected.

The Role

SASHS is seeking to employ an innovative and experienced self-starter to work in the unique Children and Parenting Support Service (CaPSS) team. The role will work with and support parents to achieve their best parenting goals, strengthen family relationships, prevent family break down and enhance the wellbeing of children whilst increasing family participation in community life.  

CaPSS is an innovative family support service that uses early intervention and support strategies, community development initiatives, the delivery of parenting groups, and the provision of some one-on-one support to achieve the aforementioned outcomes.

The position is predominately based out of the SASHS office in Sunshine with satellite CaPSS offices in Wyndham Vale and Melton.  CaPSS delivers services across Melton, Melton South, Melton West, Wyndham Vale, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing and Laverton.  The CaPSS program has available a fleet of vehicles which services the mobility needs of the program.  Through the delivery of evidence based group parenting education sessions, and the program’s commitment to participating in community events, there may be a requirement for the Practitioner to work outside of office hours and, on occasion, weekends as negotiated.

Key duties include:

  • Drives ownership of and adherence to CaPSS vision, mission and values and that of the SASHS Network and TSA and contributes to a collaborative approach to service delivery and improvement within the team
  • Works under the general direction of the Lead Practitioners and the Program Manager and adheres to established work practices whilst exercising initiative and judgement where practices and direction are not clearly defined
  • Delivers highly effective and appropriate parenting support services to families
  • Delivers highly effective and developmentally appropriate evidenced based support services to children and families, based on goals as identified by the parents and/or children, within their ‘natural’ home, school and community environments
  • Develops positive and effective relationships with families and children and the broader community which encourage self-determination and participation
  • Understands and effectively manages the delivery of community engagement and development strategies and activities. Including identifying service gaps and recommending service delivery improvements to the Lead Practitioner
  • Works in partnership with local people, local agencies, schools and local council to develop innovative ways to address community priorities and demands of children and families.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Early Childhood, Counselling, Community Development, Psychology, Welfare or related field, a degree qualification is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment is required.

Requirements of the role

  • A national police record check (&/or International, if required)
  • A current and valid Working with Children Check
  • A current Victorian Drivers licence would be advantageous
