POSITION OVERVIEW
The role of the Senior Health Promotion Officer (Youth) is to lead and work collaboratively with other members of the Youth Stream of the Health Promotion Unit to deliver industry leading youth health promotion interventions. Bringing expertise in targeted youth engagement, the role will lead the development and implementation of strategic youth health promotion activities in-line with organisational work plans. The Senior Health Promotion Officer (Youth) will be responsible for the effective planning, delivery and evaluation of a wide range of targeted health promotion projects including campaigns, community and professional education, research and advocacy activities. The Senior Health Promotion Officer (Youth) will work alongside other staff and sector leaders to deliver culturally informed, evidence based, innovative strategies that maximise the outcomes to the targeted population.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Qualifications in health promotion, public health, education, allied health or relevant field with at least 5 years’ experience in the areas health promotion or other relevant roles
- Demonstrated understanding of health promotion with extensive experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of health promotion projects using evidence based strategies
- Demonstrated knowledge of reproductive and sexual health as it relates to young people and other Family Planning NSW priority groups
- Demonstrated skills in project management with the ability to work across multiple projects, meet deadlines and monitor budgets
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated skills in coaching and team work with the ability to apply effective interpersonal skills
- Strong planning, evaluation and report writing skills, including the capacity to analyse and interpret data, and apply research and evaluation findings
Desirable
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Post graduate qualifications in a relevant area
Other requirements
- A Criminal Record Check and Working With Children Check are required prior to commencement in this role
- Current NSW driver’s licence
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Lead the Family Planning NSW Youth Health Promotion Stream and provide regular coaching and support to Health Promotion Officers
- Promote Family Planning NSW as a leader in reproductive and sexual health
- Lead the development and delivery of health promotion projects including conducting literature reviews, needs assessments and evaluations
- Actively build and develop partnerships that enhance health promotion activities and facilitate collaborative action
- Actively participate in and contribute to an ongoing process of individual meetings, unit meetings, stream meetings, quality improvement and professional development strategies
Health promotion programs
- Lead a program of youth health promotion projects and ensure all aspects are delivered on time and on budget
- Lead the design, delivery and evaluation of high quality community education programs to young people in school and community settings
- Report on all activities within the Youth Stream of health promotion, ensuring deliverables and timeframes are met
- Ensure projects are consistent with evidence-based practice, health promotion theory and contribute to Family Planning NSW research activities
- Engage young people in the decision making, planning, delivery and evaluation of health promotion projects in line with the organisation’s Consumer Engagement Framework
Evaluation and quality
- Work in partnership with the Family Planning NSW Research Centre to implement evaluation activities in-line with organisational work plans
- Contribute to health promotion quality improvement activities
- Provide high quality written and verbal reports
