Are you an enthusiastic and self-motivated clinical coder looking for a challenge? We are looking for a dynamic clinical coder to join our team. The position will be based at Wembley.
Clinical Coder
The primary responsibility of a clinical coder is the accurate translation of narrative descriptions of diseases, injuries and procedures into alphanumeric codes using ICD-10-AM.
This is a casual position with Genesis Care WA.
Key accountabilities
The Clinical Coder will classify diseases and procedures for separations using ICD-10-AM coding books, medical dictionary, coding authority, electronic medical records and other resources as required ensuring that an accurate DRG is assigned.
The Coder will ensure accurate selection of the principal diagnosis and principal procedure and sequencing of additional diagnoses and procedures. This will ensure accuracy of reporting inclusive of Hospital Casemix Protocol (HCP) and Private Hospital Data Bureau (PHDB) reports.
The Coder will keep abreast of current developments in clinical coding practices implementing new coding practices as directed by the National Centre for Clinical Classification and the Department of Health. The Coder will participate in ongoing education including coding meetings, formal and informal instruction and feedback from clinical staff. The Clinical Coder will ensure all data is tracked appropriately, complying with relevant standards.
Selection Criteria:

• Successful completion, or working towards, of recognised courses in clinical coding (ICD-10-AM) and medical terminology, or a Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience and competence in clinical classification using ICD-10-AM and high level understanding of Australian Coding Standards.
• Computer literacy and excellent keyboard skills.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated ability to work to and meet strict deadlines.
