About the Role

The Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department manages approximately 23,000 patients who are under 17 years of age.  Western Health invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for our 2018 Paediatric Emergency Medicine registrar positions.

The post is suitable for trainees in Emergency Medicine (ACEM), aiming to complete their paediatric log-book, and for advanced trainees in General Paediatrics (RACP), who must complete 6 months of Acute Paediatrics.  Sunshine Hospital ED is accredited for Acute Paediatrics for this requirement.

The successful applicant(s) will assess and manage paediatric patients in Sunshine ED. The Paediatric Emergency roster includes: days, evenings, weekend and night cover.

 

Essential requirements:

  • Medical practitioner registration with AHPRA
  • Registered trainee of RACP and/or ACEM Experience necessary
  • Completion of Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) course

RACP trainees

  • Minimum of one year paediatrics
  • Six months of neonatology

ACEM trainees

  • Minimum of one year emergency medicine

  • Paediatric and Emergency Consultant cover
  • Supervision of residents seconded from the Royal Children’s Hospital and from Western Health is a vital part of the post

  • Active member of the PREDICT network for Paediatric Emergency Medicine Research
  • Active teaching programs in place including: quarterly one-day PLS course, weekly teaching sessions, weekly radiology review sessions, bi-monthly Paediatric Emergency Medicine seminar, Paediatric Simulation with in situ and high fidelity simulation programs in a dedicated simulation centre
  • This position lends itself to job sharing
