About the Role:

The position provides psychological services, maintains an active case-load, and delivers a front-line psychological service response to consumers at the Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU), Dandenong Hospital. SECU provides contemporary, high-quality, interdisciplinary secure extended care and treatment services for consumers with chronic psychiatric conditions and/or complex multi-diagnostic presentations. A multi-disciplinary team provides targeted treatment and rehabilitation programs that maximise individual functioning, minimise the barriers to recovery, and promote return to community living where possible. The main focus of the position is to provide evidence-based, best practice psychological assessments and interventions for a diverse range of mental health issues experienced by consumers in the service. The position also provides secondary consultation to the team and other relevant stakeholders regarding the mental health issues of consumers in the service. The position may provide mentoring to provisional psychologists. This position is operationally directly accountable to the Service Manager, SECU, clinically reports to the Consultant Psychiatrist(s) and is professionally accountable to the Psychology Discipline Senior and/or other psychology professional lead.

The Secure Extended Care Unit (Unit 4) is a 50 bed Inpatient Unit based at Dandenong Hospital that values and supports each unique client's journey to a life inspired by hope and potential. SECUs provide medium to long-term inpatient treatment and rehabilitation for people who have unremitting and severe symptoms of mental illness or disorder with an associated significant disturbance in behaviour that preclude their living in a less restricted environment. SECUs represent the highest level of care on the continuum of mental health services and provide extended clinical treatment, supervision and support for those whose needs cannot be met adequately by other available programs and services

The Key Components of the Role Include:

  • Provides specific psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions – working within individual, group, and family contexts.
  • Provides psychodiagnostics assessment.
  • Contributes specialist psychology knowledge to the multidisciplinary assessment, formulation and treatment process.
  • Contributes to clinical innovation and planning and education/training initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively as a member of the SECU multidisciplinary team and sharing team duties, and provision of therapeutic support to the ‘system’ around the client in a collaborative and reflective partnership with other involved agencies.

You have a strong commitment to exceptional care and outstanding outcomes for your consumers group. You are a highly experienced neuropsychologist with an ambitious and supportive disposition that will see you collaborate with your team to reach many goals one being of course, excellent quality of care.
