Position Summary

Northern Health is a dynamic health service, providing vital public healthcare to residents of Melbourne’s northern suburbs and the surrounding regional communities. Our five campuses offer services to a vastly diverse community at all stages of life.

The Department of Orthopaedics provides a friendly and supportive environment for both young and experienced doctors alike so that each member in the Department can reach their full potential. We pride ourselves as 'one of the medical students favourite rotations'. Our enthusiasm in teaching extends to Interns, Residents and Registrars as well as other staff in the Hospital.

There are twelve Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeons, two Advanced Orthopaedic Trainees, three Unaccredited Registrars, three Residents, one Intern, a Research Co-ordinator and a clinical research nurse working in the Department. The unit is also supported by an Ortho-Geriatric team.

We operate on 2,000 patients and manage 13,000 patients in clinic annually. Theatre lists and clinics are done at both The Northern Hospital and at Broadmeadows Hospital. Each unaccredited registrar is usually involved in 400 cases per year.

There are rehabilitation ward rounds at Broadmeadows Hospital, as well as at the Bundoora Extended Care Centre.

Three Positions are available - Two Unaccredited positions will rotate on a 6-montly basis between The Northern and Broadmeadows Hospitals, and the third will be based at The Northern for 12 months; attendance at both campuses will be required.

We are committed to furthering medical education and we have recently set up a trust fund for research. We are one of the four hospitals of the Victorian Orthopaedic Trauma Outcome Registry (VOTOR) Network and we contribute to ongoing research projects under the VOTOR banner.

We encourage you to consider being part of our dynamic team in 2019.
