We are seeking an experienced medical secretary to join our friendly specialist surgical practice in Nowra, Shoalhaven.

We aim to provide a high standard of service for patients and referring practitioners. Most of our work has been automated providing a relaxed environment, focussed on patient care.

This is a Permanent Part-time position for Monday and Tuesday 9.00am – 5.00pm (with ability to cover annual and sick leave). Award wages apply with a 3 month probation period. Ours is a supportive environment and training in our system will be provided. The successful applicant will be positive, professional and keen to contribute to the patient's experience of care.

 

The role consists of:

Meeting and delivering quality service to patients and healthcare professionals

  • Answering phone calls and booking appointments
  • Patient billing, processing payments, receipting and banking
  • Managing patient records and information with strict confidentiality
  • Managing medical software and database
  • Liaising with referring doctors, hospital theatre, ward and reception staff
  • Touch typing using a dictaphone
  • Administration and general day to day running of the practice

 

Essential criteria for this role include:

  • Previous experience in a medical practice
  • Knowledge of medicare and medical database management
  • Knowledge of medical terminology with prior dictaphone experience
  • Financial ability including: patient and health fund billing; EFTPOS; end of day reconciliation 
  • Good time management skills e.g. multi-tasking and prioritising tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to relate to patients
  • Polite telephone manner and patient rapport
  • Maintain confidentiality and practice policy
  • Holiday and sick leave relief

 

Ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Ability to work unsupervised and with a proactive attitude
  • Excellent people skills and able relate well to patients and health care professionals
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, and to show initiative
  • Experience using Genie software will be an advantage
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Well-presented, well-spoken and courteous with a warm and friendly disposition
  • A reliable and flexible team player who is available to fill in when required for covering sick and annual leave.
