We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Child and Family Counsellor to work with children and young people who have been impacted by domestic and family violence. 

The Centre Against Domestic Abuse Inc.(CADA) is funded by the Queensland Government to deliver a suite of services.  CADA has offices in Redcliffe, Pine Rivers, and Caboolture.  It has a team of experienced and supportive practitioners who are committed towards reducing risk and supporting people, predominantly women and children, affected by domestic and family violence.

This is a part-time position (14.5 hrs per week) located primarily in our Caboolture Office but will be required to also work in other CADA designated premises.

Level 5 – "Social, Community, Home Care, and Disability Services Industry Award 2010"

Purpose of position:

  • To support and promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young persons (aged 0-18 years) who are affected by domestic and family violence.
  • To promote and develop early intervention strategies that address inter- generational domestic violence cycle.
  • To provide community education and interagency co-operation to work towards the elimination of domestic and family violence.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  1. Possess a tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Social Science or other related fields and have a minimum of 2 years counselling experience.
  2. Hold a current Blue Card issued by the Commission for Children and Young People or ability to apply for one

Key Criteria:

  1. Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to utilize trauma informed, innovative therapeutic intervention practices with children, young people and their safe parent, specifically those who have experienced or witnessed domestic and family violence;
  2. Solid understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and its effects on children & family functioning;
  3. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively and sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds;
  4. Well-developed inter-personal skills (both verbal and written), computer skills, and ability to work and contribute as a team member;
  5. Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups (therapeutic, community education & training);
  6. Willingness to participate in administrative functions of a community based organisation including community events.

Additional requirements:

  • Current Queensland Driver's License
  • Own car
