Our Domestic and Family Violence Refuge is a welcoming haven for women and their children who have experienced the trauma of domestic/family violence. All refuge staff work towards assisting families to regain independence & safety following domestic and family violence.

As the Child and Family Counsellor, you will work from a strengths based, trauma informed case management model to provide therapeutic and counselling responses to children aged from birth to 17 years, as well as family therapy, psycho-education and workshop delivery. Your therapeutic practice will include Expressive Therapies such as play therapy, art and music therapy. You will work closely with the Domestic Violence Women’s Counsellor and will participate in collaborative case reviews as part of a multidisciplinary team.

About you

You will have Bachelor level qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working therapeutically with children. Preferably, with a background working with Domestic Violence, you will have demonstrated understanding of the impacts of Domestic Violence and understanding of the attachment parenting model. You will have demonstrated knowledge of trauma informed care, neurobiology of trauma and child centred therapeutic practice. You should be comfortable working with children who are extremely heightened and reactive.
