About the role:

The Custodial Health Service is a division within the State Emergencies & Support Command, providing ongoing Health care to all people held in police custody; 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

The Custodial Health Service provides Care to people held in Police custody at; The Melbourne Custody Centre, Metropolitan Police Stations and Regional Police Stations across Victoria. This state wide service provides over 25,000 episodes of care to patients per year.

The Custodial Nurse provides a specialist clinical nursing service to people in this challenging and complex environment.


Ideally you will have:

  • Excellent Clinical Assessment skills, with an eye for detail
  • The ability to effectively triage and monitor patient deterioration quickly and calmly
  • The confidence, skills and ability to work in an interactive environment as well as work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills and ability to work effectively within a harmonious team environment to ensure collaborative and holistic care of patients
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of current clinical practice, its delivery and models of care
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication
  • Sound computer skills

 
Skills and Experience:

To be considered to join our team you will possess experience or interest, in Clinical assessment and intervention in:

  • Acute and chronic illness and other complex care situations
  • Alcohol and other drugs - addiction and withdrawal
  • Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and psychiatric disability
  • Recognition of Self-harming behaviours and suicide interventions


Qualifications:

  • Be a Division 1 Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience, preferably within an Acute Medicine - Emergency, General Medicine setting, (Post Graduate qualifications highly desirable)


Requirements and relevant information:

  • VPSG-4 range $82,574 - $93,689 p.a. + superannuation + applicable shift penalties + 20% allowance
  • Possess a current Victorian Driver Licence
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa
  • The incumbent will be required to work Rostered Hours, Shift work, some Public Holidays and Weekends. Shift allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
